Mechanical seals cost about the same as applied seals but last 3.5 times longer (ASCE Manuals and Reports on Engineering Practice No. 92, 2008). Where it installs
A precast concrete manhole during sewer rehabilitation. Cretex chimney seals fit between the cast-iron frame and the precast chimney section to stop infiltration at the most common leak path.

Most utilities mix and match from the line — internal chimney seals on rehabilitation projects, PRO-RING on every new-construction grade adjustment, lid plugs and gaskets to retrofit existing covers across a maintenance program. Chimney seals
Mechanical seal, no chemical bond required.
LSS internal chimney seals span up to 24 vertical inches without extensions; X-85 external chimney seals span up to 12 inches of adjustment between casting and concrete cone. Both meet ASTM C-923 rubber and install without primers, torches, or special tools.
Grade adjustment
50-year design life on PRO-RING.
Expanded polypropylene (EPP) grade adjustment rings rated HS-20 / HS-25 traffic. Available in round, square, and rectangular variants for any casting. Lightweight enough to install without lifting equipment; corrosion and chemical resistant; no mortar or grout required.
Joint seals
7.5-inch rubber compression seal.
Internal Joint Seals stop groundwater infiltration in collection-system mainline pipe and increase wastewater treatment capacity. ASTM C-923 rubber with ASTM A-240 Type 304 stainless steel expansion band. Reusable and mechanical (no chemical bond).
External joint wrap
Passes ASTM C 1244 vacuum test.
Cretex Wrap is a permanent external seal for manholes, round pipe, elliptical, oval, arched, tongue-and-groove, and bell-and-spigot joints. Self-contained ratchets eliminate the need for special tools; works on wet or dry surfaces with no primers or open flames.
